LOS ANGELES (Dec. 27, 2004) – NeoCon® West, the West Coast's largest exposition and conference for commercial interiors and the built environment, returns to the L.A. Mart® March 9-10, 2005, with a full lineup of educational seminars that will educate and expose attendees to the latest happenings in the industry and Los Angeles. METROPOLIS editor-in-chief Susan Szenasy and designers Greg Lynn and Alex McDowell reveal the impact of combining movie studio model making with software-generated architecture. As the authority on computer-aided design, Lynn was selected in 2000 by Time magazine as one of the top design innovators of the 21st century. Lynn specializes in creating exotic forms and is an expert in cutting-edge design and construction techniques. Lynn’s projects range from boutique interiors and public
housing, to automotive design and special effects in major motion pictures. Production designer Alex McDowell (“The Crow,” “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” “Minority Report,” “The Cat in the Hat”) integrates digital technology with traditional design to create unprecedented control over the look of a film. Lighting in today’s typical office suffers from poor visual quality, too much uniformity, no integration with daylighting, little integration with task lighting, and reflectance levels which are much too low, largely because the focus is on saving energy rather than occupant needs.
