PULSE DEBUT MET WITH GREAT SUCCESS AT CHICAGO’S MERCHANDISE MART
Premier market showcased hundreds of leading urban, denim, street wear, board sports and contemporary clothing and accessory lines June 23-25, 2004
CHICAGO (July 29, 2004)—The successful debut of Pulse, a new apparel trade show at The Merchandise Mart geared toward hip-hop, street, board sports, urban and contemporary clothing and accessories, attracted buyers from across the country, along with hundreds of the hottest lines for men, women and children. The new show for urban wear in the Midwest, Pulse was held in The Merchandise Mart’s 8th floor Market Suites June 23-25, 2004, with a second show scheduled for Sept. 8-10, 2004, in its inaugural year. The show will be held four times annually beginning in 2005.
“The premiere of Pulse was a huge success with an impressive showcase of top exhibitors and a tremendous buyer turnout,” said Susan McCullough, vice president of apparel, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI). “We are excited that the show got off to such a strong start, and we are confident that it will continue to grow and flourish in the coming years.”
Exhibitors in the June show included Akademiks, Azzure, Drunk’n’Munky, Girbaud Ladies, Girbaud Men’s, Makaveli, Phat Farm, Rocawear and Sean John. Approximately 200 exhibitors totaling more than 800 lines were showcased in 50,000 square feet of space.
“Pulse is a really strong show, and the atmosphere is great,” said Allen Richter, Polo Jeans Company. “This is a must-attend market; the big names are all here in one location, and the location is great.”
A multitude of buyers from across the United States and Canada attended the premiere show. Buyers not only from the Midwest but also from states such as California, New York, New Jersey, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Texas attended the debut trade show.
“Pulse is energetic – all the big names are here,” said Bruce Levin, a buyer from Levin’s in St. Louis, Mo. “The atmosphere is great, and everything is organized and presented in a high-end format. I also like that Pulse is so secure and kept private to the trade, so not just anyone can walk in and disrupt the flow of good business.”
“My experience at Pulse has been excellent,” said Nina Rojas, a buyer from Hip Hop Culture in Dayton, Ohio. “For a first-time show, it is so well represented and really organized. All the top lines are here, and everything is so easy to find. We’ll be back in September.”
Buyers and exhibitors had a chance to unwind at the opening night party held Wednesday, June 23, on the show floor. Attendees enjoyed complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while listening to music by DJ Jesse De La Peņa.
