“SHARING IT DAY” VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE
TO BENEFIT THE GREATER CHICAGO FOOD DEPOSITORY
CHICAGO (Nov. 22, 2005) - Chicagoans will have the chance to reach out to those in need without even leaving their home from Nov. 22 – Dec. 16, 2005. The Merchandise Mart’s “Sharing It Day Program” – Chicago’s largest corporate food drive benefiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository – has gone virtual. This virtual food drive features four weeks of giving, instead of just one day. Visit www.chicagosfoodbank.org/sharingitday.html to make a donation. Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., Chicago Sun-Times, Jewel-Osco and the Mayor’s Office of Special Events are proud sponsors of the “Sharing It Day” virtual food drive.
“During this season of giving, we are very fortunate and thankful to receive each and every donation that is made to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. We would especially like to thank those who participate in the ‘Sharing It Day’ virtual food drive for their help in making sure that thousands of people will have nutritious meals all year long,” said Michael P. Mulqueen, executive director, Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository serves 600 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout Chicagoland and depends on the support and generosity of Chicagoans to accomplish the task of feeding hungry men, women and children in Cook County. The funds collected from the virtual food drive help the Food Depository feed 91,000 of Chicago’s less fortunate each week.
In addition to contributing via www.chicagosfoodbank.org/sharingitday.html, donors can also stop by The Merchandise Mart’s second floor where computers will be set up for easy access to the food drive Web site. Monetary donations are welcome on-site, as well. The computer donation stations will be open at The Merchandise Mart from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Nov. 22 – Dec. 16 on the second floor near the “L” stop.
