METROPOLITAN HOME MAGAZINE’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF DONNA WARNER
TO DELIVER L.A. MART®’S NEXT DESIGNERS’ FORUM ON WEDNESDAY, NOV. 17, 2004
LOS ANGELES (Sept. 30) – Metropolitan Home’s Donna Warner will make a West Coast appearance to discuss “What’s Modern Now?” as part of L.A. Mart®’s Designers’ Forum lecture series, on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004.
Affirming that contemporary style no longer has a set definition, Warner will reveal that what's really modern now is a mix of what makes us comfortable and joyous, what inspires and soothes. Modern can be pared-down these days, but not totally minimal, complex in concept and evolution, but simple in expression. It is thought-provoking, yet ultimately a very personal solution for living in today's world.
“We are most excited to have Metropolitan Home and Ms. Warner conclude what has been an immensely successful 2004 Designers’ Forum lecture series,” said Jeff Sampson, director of marketing, home furnishings, L.A. Mart. “As the chronicle of contemporary American culture, Metropolitan Home is symbolic of a sophisticated, modern design sensibility that surely will captivate the Southern California design community.”
Designers’ Forum begins at 10 a.m. with a continental breakfast hosted in L.A. Mart’s 2nd-floor seminar room, Suite 295, and is followed by the 10:30 a.m. lecture presentation. A reception in the PALECEK showroom, Suite 1048, with Metropolitan Home follows at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Since Metropolitan Home's inception 20 years ago, Warner has held an influential leadership role at the Hachette magazine and has been editor-in-chief since 1992. Metropolitan Home is the nation's leading contemporary design magazine and a permanent record of the best in American home style today. Under Warner's aegis, Metropolitan Home has been the first to report the latest trends and the hottest products, as well as the work of the world's most talented designers.
Warner was awarded the 2004 Circle of Excellence Award for outstanding editorial and media achievement from the New York chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA). She helped develop "Renovate," a Metropolitan Home coffee-table book published by Filipacchi Publishing. Previously, Warner co-wrote "The New American Cuisine," published by Harmony Books in 1981, and oversaw "Metropolitan Home American Style." Warner is a longtime American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) member and is a senior judge yearly for its prestigious National Magazine Awards. She began her editorial career at Better Homes and Gardens in 1969.
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) will offer 0.1 CEU credit to industry professionals. With limited seating, designers are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the program. To ensure a reservation at the Designers’ Forum, please R.S.V.P. by Nov. 12, 2004, at 213.763.5731.
Designers’ Forum continues in 2005 with a new and exciting lineup of celebrated design authorities and national shelter publications presenting the latest news, information and trends for the design professional. Dates and scheduled presenters will be announced as information becomes available.
